Intended as a guide for wildlife managers and ecotourism operators, as well as interested ecotourists, this book addresses the biological principles governing how ecotourism affects wildlife. The introductory chapters focus on four key responses to human visitation-behavioral, physiological, ecological, and evolutionary. Readers will discover ecotourism's effects on biodiversity in connection with various industries that are habitat or taxonomically specific: fish tourism (including both freshwater and marine), marine mammal tourism, the huge industry centered on terrestrial animals, and the well-studied industry of penguin tourism. Given that the costs and benefits of ecotourism cannot be meaningfully assessed without understanding the human context, particular attention is given to how ecotourism has been used as part of community development. In closing, the book synthesizes the current state of knowledge regarding best practices for reducing human impacts on wildlife. The final chapter highlights key research questions that must be addressed to provide more evidence-based guidelines and policy.

Das Knigreich Westphalen (18071813) ist vielfach als ein Modellstaat beschrieben worden, in dem vor allem verwaltungs- und gesellschaftspolitische Modernisierungen mit zum Teil durchaus nachhaltiger Wirkung erfolgt sind. Die Studie untersucht vor diesem Hintergrund das bislang kaum berücksichtigte Medizinalwesen. Nach der Charakterisierung der Ausgangsstellung bei Gründung dieses künstlichen Staatsgebildes wird die weitere Entwicklung des Gesundheitswesens analysiert. Dabei geht der Autor auch der Frage nach, in wie weit die franzsischen Verhältnisse als Anleihe und Orientierung für eine in Aussicht gestellte Medizinalreform dienten und welche Dringlichkeit medizinische und staatliche Vertreter ihr beimaßen. Die Publikation zeigt, welche Intentionen verfolgt wurden und in welchem Maße Modernisierungen im Gesundheitswesen tatsächlich stattgefunden haben.
Die Ambivalenz zwischen aktiver Neugestaltung in einigen Bereichen des Gesundheitswesens bei gleichzeitiger Verzgerung und Verschleppung einer umfassenderen Reform werden im Kontext der politischen und konomischen Entwicklung des Knigreichs gedeutet.
Nowadays, most digital modulation schemes are based on conventional signal constellations that have no algebraic group, ring, or field properties, e.g. square quadrature-amplitude modulation constellations. Signal constellations with algebraic structure can enhance the system performance. For instance, multidimensional signal constellations based on dense lattices can achieve performance gains due to the dense packing. The algebraic structure enables low-complexity decoding and detection schemes. In this work, signal constellations with algebraic properties and their application in spatial modulation transmission schemes are investigated. Several design approaches of two- and four-dimensional signal constellations based on Gaussian, Eisenstein, and Hurwitz integers are shown. Detection algorithms with reduced complexity are proposed. It is shown, that the proposed Eisenstein and Hurwitz constellations combined with the proposed suboptimal detection can outperform conventional two-dimensional constellations with ML detection.

The first article in this issue, Harold Bérubé's "Selling the Suburbs to Montrealers: Advertising Discourse and Strategies, 1950-1970" is a revised translation of his 2017 article that appeared in the Revue d'histoire de l'Amérique française. This is the beginning of a collaboration between the JCHA and the RHAF to try to bridge the historiographic divide that linguistic boundaries produce in Canada.
