Welcome to the offices of Spirou Magazine. Everyone here is hard at work to keep the magazine ticking, from reporters to secretaries, including editor Fantasio and even, occasionally, Spirou himself. Everyone? Well, not quite... There's that office boy, Gomer. No one's entirely sure what his job description is, or how he got hired. One thing is certain, though: he's a walking disaster zone! From work-shirking scheme to disastrous invention, enter the hilarious world of the most famous layabout of all!
Gomer is absolutely peerless when it comes to disrupting life at
Spirou Magazine, much to his boss Prunelle's and long-suffering Mr De
Mesmaeker's chagrin. But don't you go underestimating him! The truth
is that his laziness, his talent for invention and even his love of
animals - not to mention his antiquated lemon of a car- are perfectly
capable of spreading chaos anywhere, in any season. You can't even imagine what he can do when it snows!
Nothing is ever simple with Gomer. Between his deplorable sense of timing, his absent-mindedness and his never-ending quest for new ways to avoid work, he causes a lot of fuses to blow - those of his colleagues, De Mesmaeker and poor Prunelle, of course, but also the actual ones at the office. And that is not at all to Alistair Bacus's taste - the accountant at Spirou Publishing ...
Gomer is a genius and a walking hazard - it is known. But often
overlooked is how he's far from the only one. In his daily efforts at
subverting the professional world, he's often accompanied by his
menagerie - trickster cat, temperamental gull, voracious mouse and
even, on occasion, a goldfish - and his brothers in laziness and
silly ideas, Jules and Bertie. Not to mention, sometimes, complete strangers instantly won over by his eagerness and imagination. Much
to the chagrin of various authority figures!
There's no denying Gomer's genius. Mechanics, botany, chemistry,
zoology, musicology ... His brain is capable of sudden brilliance in
everything at which he tries his hand. The problem is that, brilliant
or not, his inventions are never quite right for either the time, or
the place. Which leads to disaster after disaster, fuelling his
colleagues' aggravation. Fortunately, he still has the loyalty of his
cat and gull - and the unfailing affection of Miss Jeanne ...
Billy is a normal 7-year-old growing up in a normal family in a normal town. His best friend is a cocker spaniel named Buddy, who is not so normal: He can make himself understood by humans without words and can talk to other animals. Buddy's best friend is the family's tortoise, Caroline. Together, Billy and Buddy get up to all sorts of mischief, gently tormenting those around them. The family setting is overflowing with love and tenderness, and the duo's pranks are guaranteed to make readers of all ages roar with laughter.
Gomer, friend of animals - his mischievous domestic cat and gull, but also the residents of the local zoo who all eagerly await his visits. Gomer, the adventurous chef, with his ... unusual dishes cooked always in the wrong places at the wrong time. Gomer, the office boy whose mere presence can spell doom for a contract ... and let's not forget Gomer the athlete! Whichever one is your favourite, in any case, they're all hilarious!
The disasters Gomer keeps causing at the Spirou office (and in town,
and out of town, and for the Army ...) sometimes drive his neighbours
and co-workers to regrettable excesses. They shout at him, lock him
up, occasionally try to strangle him a bit ... Yet he rarely even
resents it. Watch out, though! Gomer is also a friend to all
creatures big and small, and anyone going after one of his furry or feathered companions is in for a nasty surprise!
Playing fetch is one of the favourite activities of dog owners
everywhere, but with a pooch like Buddy, it doesn't take long to
become ... complicated. After all, a cocker spaniel who brings back
lost toys by the dozen and refuses to give up until he's found the
right one is far from commonplace. For Billy and his parents, though,
it's same old same old, and they wouldn't change their dear Buddy for the world - even when he causes chaos!
Cedric is an eight-year-old boy who is desperately in love with Chen but too shy to let her know. Between school, rowdy friends, nosy parents and an insufferable cousin, little Cedric has a lot to deal with. Thankfully, his grandpa is always there to help, no matter how much mischief Cedric makes...
Life with Buddy is always full of adventures and the unexpected.
Daily life and special occasions, summer or winter, at home or on
holidays ... The little devil always finds a way to spice up his
humans' lives - starting with Billy's. But take a cocker spaniel to
the mountains and add an old Saint Bernard friend, and better hold on
to your seat - especially if you're the long-suffering dad!
Seasons come and go. It's winter now for Billy and Buddy, always a magical time for children-and at least one dog. Between the snow to play with and throw at each other, the ice to slide on, and the quaint seasonal customs a smart cocker spaniel can twist to the advantage of his stomach... The opportunities for fun and mischief are endless! Whether the adults feel the same way about it, well... That's not very important, is it ?
Music soothes the wild beast ... and brings down walls! Among all
the things that make Gomer such a lovable rascal, there are two that
are instantly recognisable: his car, and his goofophone. His old
lemon, favourite target of the constabulary and every pedestrian's
nightmare, is responsible for half the pollution in town - as well as
many of the more ... exotic accidents. The rest of the latter are mostly the result of the terrible `musical' instrument put together
by Gomer - stiff competition for the Trumpets of Jericho!
Haroun al Plassid is ruler of Baghdad, but his Grand Vizier Iznogoud is not happy with this state of affairs. Always on the lookout for ways to become Caliph instead of the Caliph, he commissions a one-way flying carpet as a gift to his liege. But the hired help is as inept as usual, and the most inconvenienced of all will be the inhabitants of... Beijing!
Billy has a very normal life, growing up in a typical family in a nondescript town. His dog, however, is a bit unusual: a cocker spaniel with human-or, as he often reflects himself, superior-intelligence. Buddy's got his posse of dog pals, his nemesis the neighbour's cat, and his almost-sister Caroline, the family tortoise. But it is with his best friend Billy that he gets up to the highest mischief, targeting everyone equally with love and abandon.
Legend has it that in Baghdad the magnificent, a great and particularly dark-minded vizier, who answers to the name of Iznogoud, works on his ambition to steal the throne of Caliph Haroun al Plassid. Thus his favourite saying: "I want to be caliph instead of the caliph!" Iznogoud, seconded by his faithful servant Wa'at Alahf, goes on vacation with the caliph...in the desert! Of course, his goal is to get rid of him by any means necessary...
The pupil Ducoboo is nice and a joker, but also a notorious dunce-a "quality" that is no bed of roses...One must be awfully resourceful to avoid the humiliating dunce's cap! But Ducoboo is brimming with imagination.... Through gags, some stranger than others, this series champions values such as friendship and the right to be different, and tackles subjects such as boy-girl and parent-child relationships.
Billy's family is a perfectly normal one. Dad, Mom, some cousins, a tortoise... and of course the best dog in the world, Buddy! Oh, true, the cocker spaniel is too smart for everyone's good sometimes, and occasionally triggers disasters or raids the fridge. But that's a small price to pay for a loyal companion who'll always be there to cheer you up and give you a good laugh!
Among the many obstacles to Spirou Magazine's productivity, two of
the most formidable are Gomer's little protégés: a very playful cat
and an evil-tempered black-headed gull. Between the bird's dive-
bombing attacks and the feline's recurrent bouts of madness, Prunelle
and the others don't have it easy. And yet, none of that compares to
the results of Aunt Hortense's overgrown cactus being brought to the
office by a clueless Gomer!

The irascible Grand Vizier hatches plot after plot to remove his ruler and take his place-melting Djinn, invisibility spell, cursed diamond, voodoo doll... But no amount of cunning or obstinacy can make up for sheer, hilariously bad luck.
In Baghdad, the Caliph's Grand Vizier Iznogoud has one aim in life:
to become Caliph instead of the Caliph. The benign ruler, Haroun al
Plassid is blind to his vizier's scheming to get rid of him and
generally had rather take a nap. Iznogoud is faithfully seconded by
Wa'at Alahf in trying to put his fiendish designs into action.
Cedric is a little 8-year-old boy, a grumbler with a big heart, who shares his life with his parents, his grandpa, his school, his mates, and Chen, the love of his life, to whom he doesn't dare declare his feelings. It's not easy being a little boy! But Cedric works hard to preserve the peace. Luckily, Grandpa is always there for the hard knocks and the blue moods...
